In his 35-plus years of legal experience, Roger W. Patton has tried over 100 jury trials involving major felony cases, white collar crime and DUIs. He has handled numerous civil cases involving personal injury, fraud, civil rights, trade secrets, contracts, employment and general business litigation, and he has conducted mediations and arbitrations. Mr. Patton has earned the respect of fellow attorneys and judges and is well-connected within the legal field.
Among Mr. Patton's most noteworthy cases is the first case in California to hold a gun store vicariously liable for the sale of an assault weapon used in a homicide. The Martindale-Hubbell AV Rated attorney also handled the first case in the state to hold family members liable for their son's perpetration of a hate crime against Asian Americans.
Mr. Patton is admitted to practice by the State Bars of California and Washington and the U.S. District Court, Northern, Eastern and Central Districts of California. He is a member of the Alameda County Bar Association, the State Bar of California and the Washington State Bar Association. Mr. Patton also sits on the U.S. District Court Criminal Justice panels and Federal Appointment panels.
Mr. Patton has co-authored legal publications on subjects such as civil fraud, trial evidence representing victims of hate crimes and DUI defense. He has also spoken on these subjects at California State Bar conventions and to groups including La Raza Lawyers and various county bar associations.
Outside of Patton Wolan Carlise, Mr. Patton is well-known as an Adjunct Professor of Law at University of California, Hastings College of the Law, where he has taught Trial Advocacy for over 15 years. He was also an instructor of Criminal Law at California State University, East Bay.
